MY15 Range Rover Evoque Prestige SD4 Review

I was a touch nervous and a little apprehensive when I picked up the keys to the Range Rover Evoque Prestige since it was the first Range Rover I’ve reviewed but it took a total of 10 min for those feelings to fade and for me to feel totally at home behind the wheel.
The Range Rover Evoque is simply a very nice looking motor vehicle from any angle and this particular car looked specially good dressed in its metallic colour Bronzie called Kaikoura Stone and riding on an attractive set of 19inch alloys the Evoque turned heads where ever I went during the week I had.
Climbing inside and the first thing that came to my mind was the interior oozes luxury, the Evoque Prestige has more cow hide then a cattle farm.
The Oxford Leather trimmed seats are not only wonderfully comfortable  but also offer decent amount of support this car would be the ideal long distance cruiser.
The multi function steering wheel again trimmed with Oxford Leather was not only comfortable to hold but was the perfect thickness for me.
The instrument display was not only well lit but easy to read in any light, the centre of the display is a 5” colour TFT screen which can display a myriad of information from the on board computer. The screen is flanked by attractive looking speedo and rev counters, although it did take me a little bit to get use to them as the dials are around the opposite way to what get on most other cars with the speedo on the left hand side.

The dash is a sea of leather as well with the top of the dash covered in dark leather while the there is a strip of Ivory coloured leather across the fascia there is a subtle strip of walnut to separate the different parts of the dash which not helps with contrast but also further enhances the luxurious feelings of the interior.
The combination of brushed aluminium, leather and wood grain strip across the middle of the dash give the Evoque an market and luxury feel that you would expect in a Range Rover.
The centre stack is home to the multimedia system, which offers full Bluetooth connectivity as well as Satnav. I found the system extremely easy to use and connecting my phone to the system was extremely painless.
One thing I loved was the home screen which give you your positioning from the GPS, give you the media info at time.
I feel in love with the clear and crisp sound from the 11 speaker meridian system the flash drive that holds all music contains from an eclectic range of music from soft ballads to the heaviest thrash metal and every song sounded extremely good.

This car featured the optional 360 deg camera’s which made parking extremely easy.
The centre console features impression crafted switch gear but the main talking point was the gear selector that rises up out of the console when you start the car.
The rear seat was comfortable and had plenty of leg room, there were no complaints from kids all week long in fact I had plenty of comment on how much they liked it. Boots pace is a reasonable and expands with the rear seats folded.

Under the bonnet the Evoque was fitted with the SD4 2.2 turbo diesel engine putting 140Kw and 420Nm of torque so the Evoque had more then enough power to keep up with traffic. On the highway just lopped along with plenty in reserve for overtaking.
Fuel consumption for the week was 9.1L/100km, which means the Evoque is the 2nd most fuel efficient diesel SUV I’ve tested this year.
Backing the turbo diesel engine is the wonderfully smooth 9 speed automatic transmission the shifts were not only smooth and seamless but it seemed to pick the right gear for the situation 99% of the time and there was no hint of hunting for gears on some of the hills I drive up, like I’ve experienced from other cars I’ve tested. The transmission can also be manually shifted via paddle shifters.

On the road the Evoque was wonderful to drive and the steering direct, the ride was a touch firm over some bumpy sections in normal mode.
I did find switching to Dynamic mode it seemed to ride the bumps better, but also cornered much better with very little lean not that it’s a slouch handling wise in normal mode.
The people I took for a ride in it certainly commented on how well it rode and how comfortable it was to ride in.

Safety wise the Evoque has received a 5 star safety rating and has a list of safety features as long your arm including 7 air bags, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Roll Stability Control (RSC), not only has got front and rear parking sensors but the 360 deg camera means it more then full marks from me.

After week in the Evoque I really didn’t want to give it back, not only does it make a great family car with plenty of room, a massive amount of safety features and phenomenal economy. But it also offers opulence and luxury that you expect in a car more a lot more then this, the quality of the cabin materials, switch gear and fit and finish was absolutely spot on and I could not fault it.
I tried for ages to come up with things I did not like about this car just to show this wasn’t an ad for the Evoque, but the only things i didn’t really like was the rear vision was a touch restrictive with the rear seat head rests up ( although it wasn’t bad enough block your vision).
The panoramic glass roof I could do without and I think the resolution of the rear view camera could be a touch better specially at night.
Other then that I couldn’t recommend the Evoque any more then I have already, if your are looking for a premium SUV full of luxury and style then you better get down to your local dealer ship and check one out.
